In the moment, your heart beat is rising, your blood is boiling. What do you do? Do you take it out on the person next to you, or the person or thing that caused the stress? Did you think about the consequences?
Todays blog is on tackling stress in the moment. What do you do when you think you can’t control yourself or the environment around you?
- Take slow, deep breaths. Take it back a few notches and get some rational thoughts going. Being consciously aware of the moment can save you a lot of time fixing your mistakes in the future. Even if you have to take yourself away from the room/situation to do this first step, the next steps will be a lot easier!
- Talk about it (calmly and rationally), do you have friend who you can console in? Ask them for 5 minutes of their time and slowly diffuse your thoughts. Sometimes getting a fresh perspective an opinion can give you the mind set you need to let go or move on from the stress that is bothering you!
- Stop what you are doing and go do something you love. This may be the reason why you are stressing in the first place. When was the last time you went away and did something for yourself? You have to think, if you leave for 2 or 3 hours will the world blow up? I don’t think so.
All in all, perspective and taking the time will to remain calm will keep you away from any unnecessary conflict and is a good life lesson. Your mind is a powerful tool, use it to your advantage.
